weaving dreams one page at a time
Tue, July 1, 2008 at 14:47 i've finally decided to take the plunge and take an online course at the local college for dreamweaver. i've been able to tinker with sites to higher degree than the general population, but i really want to design, impress and wow people with something i've made. till now sites i've done lack a certain je ne sais quoi and have been quite utilitarian.
the class however is very slow moving. it's a 6week long course, with two lessons each week. this is just the third week, but i really thought halfway through i'd be able to do more than insert pictures & format text - all of which i was able to do prior to the class.
in fact i am learning way more from my dreamweaver CS3 for dummies book than the class. not to mention it isn't led my a pretentious jack ass who over explains simple things while NOT explaining anything more difficult - not that we've even covered anything difficult yet, but when it takes an entire chapter to explain previewing your page, i can see it coming. i feel like there should have been an intermediate class that required some sort of skill test to access your abilities, thus not grouping people who've never heard of different browsers (and who ask questions like "will it void my Windows warranty if i install this 'firefox' thing?") with people who know the basics and really are there to learn dreamweaver.
whew - that felt good. i've been feeling like i rode the short bus to this class so far.
just chillin
Mon, April 28, 2008 at 21:39 life is good right now. after a bunch of trips to the dentist (the bad one, then gloriously, the greatest one ever) and then to the doctor to fix what the first dentist broke, then suffering through a sinus infection i've gotten to the part where life goes on. just not very clearly.
i will be deleting this later.
currently watching little people, big world, and trying to get my newly updated iphone to do all the things its suppose to do. like block phone calls from jackassess who live in jackassnicity.
shout it out
Mon, March 31, 2008 at 21:23 ok, this will be short, but here's my abridged list of things I like... RIGHT NOW. some are subject to change.
gspn - i keep giving them props, and they just keep getting better. i love cliff & steph's outlook on life, lost, etc and think it's great cliff has been able to go full time. a great family & great production crew.
grammargirl - the girl who I am almost as grammatically retentive as. i love her podcasts, and she's awesome for proving points when it comes to proper usage.
scottsigler - grammargirl actually mentioned this fellow in her podcast, and for a short period you can download his new book here. it actually releases april 1, 2008. i've read the first chapter, and i am really intrigued.
lost in 8:15 - no link, but just search that on youtube and you'll be able to enjoy a 3 season recap in only 8 minutes and 14 seconds. (yes, i just broke grammar girl rules, but i am tired.) do they leave stuff out? SURE! It's a little over 8 minutes long, but boy that girl sure does cover a lot, and has a terrific sense of humor to boot.
okay, and now for what I don't like?
the dentist.
