...tomorrow's the big day...

Vote or Not?
Well, I can honestly say I've been a heel about voting until this year. I have this feeling the margin of a win will be much greater than my one little vote - but I also feel if I don't even try I'll just be signing my life away.
There are lots of websites that are offering encouragement for voters. Since it's the day before the big election if you haven't already registered it's too late (at least in Georgia). But if you are registered click the link above to sign up for a sweepstakes for $100,000 just for voting or head over to my good friends @ getofftheinternetandvote for goodies when you provide a picture of you with your ballot stub, or at the polls on November 2. Finally! A good use for that camera phone I just had to have!
I don't think Diddy's "Vote or Die!" campaign is all that feasible - unless it's just a matter of getting his fans off their arses, but will the really vote? Or will they think about it, and just decide since we are all going to die anyway what's the point?

left work...

... So I get home early. You may wonder why I want to go home early, especially since I don't get paid for time I am not at work (just not that lucky). Well, it has to do with a particulary special little 8 year old girl who will turn 9 tomorrow.
:) There is still the cake to pick up, as well as other nicky-nacky things that you just don't think about until the last minute. Plastic silverware, cookies, etc.
Plus, I love being a slacker. I am still also in the middle of that awesome book I am reading and want to read as much as possible. I feel like I know these people and cannot stand the horrible things that are happening to them. It seems as though they have the very worst luck of anyone, ever - but I think it's really just the state of India at the time. It's set during the 1975 Emergency, where the prime minister revoked the constitution and declared the country in a state of Emergency. She was later assassinated.

shifting = boredom

There is nothing happening today at work. Our fearless leader bought a new house, so he, his wife & kids, and another girl that works in the office are all participating in the puja. So that leaves the non-Hindu folk to stay at work, but I think all of our customers know the others aren't here because the phone hasn't rang.

Bear is in Daytona for the last 5 days of bike week, I've got my 8 year old's birthday party planned for tomorrow and another one on Sunday. So I've got a busy weekend planned, but no real partner in crime. :(

Oh - My friend Archu came back, and since nothing is happening, I can go home early!! More later!! :)

hello!

I have no idea what I'll do with my blog - Other than rant & rave about things I come across.Currently I am reading A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. It is about the coming together of 4 people in 1975 India. It's a very moving story as we see each of their lives played out from before birth on & is interspersed with history to give it an even more real sense of how everyone must have felt at that point. The people have to deal daily with the suffering induced by the caste system and years of oppression.

I recently started a new job that has given me the gift of working with some very genuine, kind & beautiful people who are also from India. My reading this book wasn't intentional (I have a nasty habit of picking up a book without really knowing what it's about) but working with them and getting to know them & their culture has given me a better insight into this book, and vice versa.

If you've read this book I'd appreciate your insight on it, as well as any recommendations for further reading. If you haven't read this book, you can pick it up here.

: )

Okay. In an attempt to get my bearings on this whole situation, I decided to peruse other blogs in search for inspiration. Not only did I find it, but I might have also tinkled in my pants (not really, but it sounds funny). You must, and yes, I do insist, go to see the humor and wittiness of Jeff Rowland.
Just go look at tell me what you think - :)
